A Quiet Cup of Coffee and a Bit of Bloody Peace

Describe one habit that brings you joy.

There’s a very specific moment in my day that brings me genuine, uncomplicated joy: the first brew of the morning, in complete silence.

Not the half-distracted, slurp it between WhatsApp pings kind. I’m talking about the sit down, don’t speak to me, no phone, just leave me be for five minutes cup of coffee.

It’s become a ritual, really. I don’t even realise how much I rely on it until it’s interrupted, by a child shouting “Mum,” a work email that somehow made it through before 8am, or the alarm I forgot to disable blasting out of my phone. But when I get that moment? That golden, quiet pocket of time where I can sit, hold a warm mug, and stare at absolutely nothing? Bliss.

It’s not about productivity, or mindfulness, or ticking off a habit tracker. It’s about not doing anything. Just being. I don’t use the time to reflect on the meaning of life or journal my thoughts, I just sit, breathe, and exist.

And in a world that constantly tells us to do more, be more, squeeze more in before 9am, that moment of stillness feels like rebellion. Cost, coffee based rebellion.

So yeah. One habit that brings me joy? A brew, silence, and absolutely no one expecting anything from me for a brief, sacred window.

Simple. Sacred. Non-negotiable.
